"Mud Run" fundraiser

Posted April 3, 2012

Saturday, 15 April 2012:  the USMC/Goodwill Industries :Mud Run" fundraiser at the Donalson Center in Greenville, SC.  This is normally a two day event (Sat & Sun) although Sunday is a lower profile day so if you cannot be there both days please plan for Saturday.  Sam Cooper will be the lead on this one for the MHCC.  In the past we have been able to setup on Friday afternoon so we should be able to do the same this year. Thousands of people participate and/or attend and we usually get a good response from the public so please try to support this event.  Last year we did get a nice donation from the sponsor organization - no guarantees for this year of course but I would think they would follow last year's example. Bottom line - we're doing it as a club to honor veterans, preserve American military history, and perform community service! Please let Sam Cooper know what you'll be able to bring and when.

Welcome New Members!

Welcome to 3 new members , Jim Thomason ; McCrary Johnston, and Brian Rapp,  Thanks guys - we look forward to working with you as the club continues to "Honor Veterans, Preserve American Military History, and Perform Community Service!

TRIPLE TREE THIS WEEKEND

Posted September 2, 2011

The Triple Tree Fly-in is next weekend (7-11 Sep 2011)

This year Triple Tree will be even bigger and better. This will be the fourth year the MHCC
has participated in this event. We, as a club, are guests; however,
because of our past support to Triple Tree with our vehicle, equipment,
and weapon displays and our participation and support for the special
memorial/commemorative programs, we are treated and accepted as "one of
their own" or said another way - we are family! This is a compliment
and an honor to all the members of the MHCC and we all should take great
pride in knowing this.

FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE SEE THE NET CALL

Welcome New Members

CANCELLED EVENT

Posted June 30, 2011

City of Anderson "Freedom Fest" originally scheduled for Sunday, 3 Jul 2011  / The last time I spoke with Ms Springer (one of the organizers) she mentioned that the city was having budget problems and had not yet made a decision to hold then event.  This was early last week.  She was to call me this week with a "yea" or "nay" --- so far I have not heard from her.  Therefore, we have to assume the event has been canceled - besides, its very "late in the game" and its not fair to ask you all to jump thru hoops because of lack of proper planning/notification on the part of the City of Anderson.  If the event is held and if anyone attends - great, please let me know.  But as of now the MHCC is not a player - perhaps we can support them for their Veterans Day Parade (which last year was a great event!)

Touch-a-Truck (last moment post)

Posted June 30, 2011

Event in Seneca, SC this coming Saturday, 2 July 2011.  Charlie, plus Alan Morehead & Gerry Jones will be able to support the event with a couple of vehicles and period uniforms.  However, the invitation is out to all the members of the MHCC to participate if they want to - everyone is welcome.  Request came at the last minute so timely notification was not an option.  The event is scheduled to run from 0900 hrs thru about 1300 hrs - if you are interested, contact Gerry Jones at  wgerryj@hughes.net for more details.  Thanks in advance for Charlie, Alan, and Gerry for jumping on this one at such short notice!

Lets get updated!

Freedom Fest

Posted June 16, 2011

The event I was wanting to provide more information on - The City of Anderson "Freedom Fest"  will have to wait.  It is to be conducted on Sunday, 3 Jul 2011.  Exact times I do not have for you yet.  Believe concept to be a display period followed by a parade.  Will get the details out ASAP! (Last year's Veteran's Day Parade in Anderson, SC was HUGE so this event will probably be a good one too!)

Palmetto Baptist Church

Posted June 16, 2011

Saturday, 18 Jun 2011:  This request was made by the same person (Ms Jeannie Dobson, the Ombudsman for Detachment 0324); however, this is for her church event in Spartanburg - the Palmetto Baptist Church, 105 Fosters Grove Road, Chesnee, SC 29323.  This is the church's annual block party and will run from 1100 hrs until 1400 hrs.  I told Ms Dobson, the as far as the MHCC is concerned, our priority will be to the Seabee event; however, I would announce it to the club for their consideration.  So, if anyone would like to go to this event because its closer or more convenient, let me know.  They have only requested a " 2-3 trucks" so it may be doable even with the Seabee event!  Anyone wanting to go to this event - let me know soonest so I can put you in contact with Ms. Dobson.

Seabee Family Day

Posted June 16, 2011

Saturday, 18 Jun 2011   Some of you will remember in November 2009, the MHCC supported the USNR, NMCB 24, Detachment 0324 Seabee Family Day celebrating the return of that unit from Iraq.  The detachment Family Support Group (FSG) has requested a display for a family get-together on Saturday, 18 Jun 2011.  Specifically, a member of the unit, his wife, and children were hit head-on by by a drunk driver and were severely injured approximately two months ago.  The sailor and his wife were in intensive care in the hospital for an extended period. The children were not seriously hurt but were taken care of by family members.  The Elks Lodge is holding a benefit event for the family and the MHCC has been asked to provide some military vehicles as a "backdrop" (eye catcher?) for the event.  It will be located at the same Elks Lodge on Pelham Road where they held the Family Day in Nov '09 and will run from 1300 hrs until approx 1800 hrs+.  Let me know if you will be able to help out here - I do need to coordinate the vehicles for this one (we do not need to have 5 each M35's - it would be better to have one vehicle of a kind but have several kinds!  Call me or email me at wlscholtes@charter.net.  I would consider this one to be a very good event/cause to support!

Thanks again!

What's Coming up

Posted April 5, 2011

(1) Tentative; date not set but it generally takes place the 2nd or 3rd weekend in April; American Legion, Gaffney, SC, Veteran's Appreciation Day. Normally, there's a group from the Spartanburg area that easily handles this one.

(2) 15-16 April 11; Azalea Festival, Pickens, SC. The MHCC supported this one last year and it was a great success. Planning is ongoing - will discuss at the meeting.

(3) 19 April 11 (Tuesday); new request from Clinton County Museum. The museum is working with Clinton High School on a Veteran's Appreciation project and has asked the MHCC to provide club members in period uniforms for - World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Ceremony is on Tuesday (a workday for most of us) but will last only a couple of hours.

(4) 30 Apr - 1 May 2011 (Sat & Sun): USMC/Goodwill Mud Run at Donalson Center, Greenville, SC; the MHCC has again been asked to support this fund raiser with military displays. We did it last year and it was a success. This year we will locate a little more closer to "center of sector" so visibility will be higher and we should have more contact with the public.

(5) 30 Apr 2011 (Saturday); the MHCC has also been asked to provide World War Two vehicles and uniforms for the Queens Cup Steeple Chase in Mineral Springs, NC. I checked their web site out (www.queenscup.org/) and it looks like a really nice event. The distance is a little farther than usual; however, it might be a really neat one to attend. We can discuss at the meeting.

(6) 22 May 2011 (Sunday); Woodruff, SC Baptist Church is sponsoring a Veteran's Appreciation Service and has asked for vehicles and uniforms for display. Brian & Susan Illner have this one as a project. We do not need 20 vehicles but will want to provide a nice display; this is a one day (several hours only) event.

(7) 27 -28 May 2011; Scottish Games, Greenville/Furman, SC; the MHCC has been asked to provide vehicles for the parade on Friday and a static display on Saturday for the games. This year they are dedicating the games to veterans. Last year over 10000 people attended the games. We'll have to discuss this one at our meeting because it conflicts with the Kings Mountain event the same weekend --- however; based on locations (and personal commitments by club members) we should be able to coordinate easily for both events.

(8) 28 - 29 May 2011; Kings Mountain National Military Park, Military Through the Ages display. The MHCC has been supporting this one for years - a really great event. There's already a core group that supports this one each year - again we'll discuss at the meeting to make sure we can cover both events properly/professionally!

(9) 3 Jul 2011 (Sunday); the MHCC has been asked by the City of Anderson, SC to support its Freedom Fest with historical military displays/uniforms/vehicles. The folks at Anderson, SC really appreciated our support for their Veterans Day Parade last year and have asked us to help them again. A lot of citizens turn out in Anderson!

(10) 8 - 12 Sep 2011: Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-in. Our traditional club encampment! Put it on your calendars!

(11) 1 -2 Oct 2011 (Sat & Sun); Currahee Military Weekend; save the date. This is always a good one.

(12) 11 Nov 2011 (Friday); Spartanburg County Veteran's Day Parade

(13) 12 Nov 2011 (Saturday); Bohman Field and/or UpCountry Museum displays

(14) 13 Nov 2011 (sun): City of Anderson, SC Veteran's Day Parade w/displays

(15) 2 Dec 2011; City of Six Mile, SC Christmas Parade.

Six Mile Christmas Parade

Posted November 29, 2010

Saturday, 4 Dec 10:  The MHCC has been asked by the town of Six Mile, SC to support their Christmas parade with military vehicles.  Line up is starting at 0900 hrs with the parade starting at 1000 hrs.  I do not have the exact location of the lineup so if anyone is already going to this event and can get it to me I'll put it out in another net call immediately!

Townville Fireman's Christmas Parade

Posted November 29, 2010

Sunday, 5 Dec 10:  The MHCC has been asked by the town of Townville, SC (vicinity of Anderson, SC) to support their Fireman's Christmas parade. This is a last minute request so I told the point of contact (POC) [Ed Moriarty @ tvillegems@bellsouth.net ] that I would put the word out to the club.  If you would be willing to support this event please contact the POC directly.  And if you do attend please let me know so I can record your participation in our journal and include it in our annual report to the IRS.  Thanks!

Seneca Christmas Parade

Posted November 29, 2010

Monday, 6 Dec 10:  The town of Seneca, SC has again asked the MHCC to participate in their annual Christmas parade.  Lineup is at 1700 hrs with the parade starting at 1830 hrs.  Lineup is normally on the south side of the town in the vicinity of one of the church parking lots - believe it is the Seneca Baptist Church but not positive.  Again, if anyone has additional info on this get it to me ASAP!  This parade has always been a good one!  Last year the MHCC had about 7 or 8 vehicles in the parade. Always a lot of spectators and the route weaves through downtown Seneca for about a mile and a half!  If you plan on attending please let me know.

Boiling Springs Christmas Parade

Posted November 29, 2010

Saturday, 11 Dec 10:  Boiling Springs, SC Christmas parade.  This is another really nice parade.  Route goes right down Hwy 9 for about a mile and a half!  Always a lot of spectators and the MHCC is always greatly appreciated.  There is a fee for this parade ($ 50.00) that Eddie and Pam Davis pay for out of their pocket so club members are asked to voluntarily chip in a couple of bucks to Pam & Eddie to help defray costs.  If you are going to attend this parade please let Pam & Eddie know as soon as possible so they may "plan the space" (edavis24pdr@bellsouth.net )  Lineup is normally at 0900 hrs with the parade starting about 1000 hrs but contact Pam or Eddie for the exact times!

REMINDER

Posted November 13, 2010

Just a reminder - the next events coming up are the Boiling Springs Christmas parade and the SC Arms Collectors Assn Gun & Knife show.  Both are in the early part of December.

USMC Mud Run/Goodwill Fund raiser in Greenville, SC

Posted September 5, 2010

Saturday, 25 Sep 10, the MHCC has been asked to provide a display for the USMC Mud Run/Goodwill Fund raiser in Greenville, SC.  Again four to six vehicles and a couple of period uniforms would be great.  They are calling this event the "Big Dig" and the concept is more like a "touch-a-truck" so there will be alot of other vehicles there too.  They are requesting a Friday afternoon/early evening setup and will provide security during the night.  Location is at the Verdae Development Center at the intersection of Verdae Blvd and Laurens Road.  Really need someone to honcho this event as I am committed to the Heritage Festival - help!.  We'll talk about this at the meeting at Triple Tree.

Annual Coon Dog Days FESTIVAL July 10,2010 UPDATE

Posted July 11, 2010

Update on Festival mentioned in the net call.

The weather was perfect for the Annual Coon Dog Days festival.  It was warm with a light breeze. The crowd was large as usual.  The MHCC vehicles got the premiere place in the parade behind the marchers.  The crowd gave us a good welcome.
After the parade we parked as a display along the upper road and had a number of folks come by and look at and ask about the vehicles.

(Pictures are located at milhcc.com)
Thanks, Alan

Greenville Gun Show

Posted February 4, 2010

Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:58 PM

Gun show in Greenville, SC this coming weekend:

Most of you already know the location but if not it's at the Carolina First Center by the downtown airport in Greenville, SC.  Most of you have already coordinated with Eddie Davis (vehicles) and/or Gerry Jones (weapons) - based on that, we should have a good turn-out.  Note the "focus" will be on weapons; however, other military displays would not be out of place; ie, uniforms, field equipment, weapons accessories, etc..

IMPORTANT:  If you are attending and are bringing displays and have not already contacted Eddie or Gerry - do so ASAP!  They need to plan the space and get sufficient tables ready

All members are welcome to attend - we will need folks to help watch the displays and give the members who will be there most of the day a break every once in awhile.  I believe the gates open at around 0900 and close at 1800 on Saturday and then open again on Sunday around 1000 and close at 1700.

BIG THANKS!!

Posted December 23, 2009

First, thanks to Jamie Neal for all his work setting up and cooordinating the gun show this past weekend.  It was an overwhelming success with several hundred people looking over the MHCC exhibit during the two days.  And for those of you who do not know, the MHCC exhibit came in third place as the best exhibit!  (and this came with a $75.00 prize for our club!)  At least 24 members of the club participated or visited the MHCC exhibit!  So for Jamie Neal, Gerry Jones, John Andrews, Brian & Susan Illner, Junior Shove, Michelle Thomason, Toby Wacker, Charlie Brickett, Scott Mattison,  Eddie & Pam Davis and Doug Imes who brought displays and helped set up - thanks a bunch! Couldn't have done it without your efforts.  And for the other members, Chuck Shook, Jonathon Fowler, Brent Pinson, Sid Rutledge, Larry Camp, Martin Isetts, Don Klyce, and Don Bryant thanks for attending and checking the exhibit out!

Special thanks also to Martin for his photos of the event to record what the MHCC provided.

And again, don't forget to chech out our website at milhcc.com.  Mike & Kathleen are continuing to work hard at making this a first class website!  Thank guys!

Grand Opening of VA Clinic EVENT

Posted December 23, 2009

Our next scheduled event (at least at the present) will be the grand opening of the new VA clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010.  It will be at the new clinic in the North Grove Medical Park off Highway 9 just short of business 85 (when heading north on highway 9).  The event is currently scheduled to begin at 1000 hrs and go to about 1200 hrs.  There will be a 300+ heated tent, music, food & beverages, and several guest speakers.  The MHCC will provide a "military" backdrop in the form of vehicle displays and members in period uniforms.  More to follow on this one as we get closer to the date.  I know Monday will be a work day but please put it on your calendars and support it if you are able.

Welcome New Members

Welcome two new members to the MHCC:  Charles Bruce and his son Chad. Glad you can join us!

Warning Order

Posted December 18, 2009

The MHCC has been asked to support the grand opening of the new Veterans Affairs Clinic here in Spartanburg on Monday, 25 January 2010.  We've been asked to set up vehicle displays and have members in period uniforms.  More details will follow as we get closer to the date; however, the event is scheduled to start at 1000 hrs and be over NLT 1200hrs.  There will be a heated tent for 300+ people, food, beverages, music, and several guest speakers.  So please put this one on your planning calendars - its a workday so that will of course make it difficult for many of our members to participate.

The SC Arms Collector Assn show (REMINDER)

Posted December 10, 2009

The SC Arms Collector Assn show is rapidly approaching; ie, 19-20 Dec09.  I covered all the details in my last net call.  It is important that you coordinate with Jamie Neal if you plan to attend and bring "stuff" as we have limited space (I believe space for 5-6 vehicles and about 6-7 tables) and need to plan properly so everyone can squeeze in!  So let Jamie know soonest! (see net call newsletter page)
